FROM THE ACTING PRINCIPAL
Dear Families,
As we continue to explore our school's Value of Courage this term, I'm reminded of all the brave acts—big and small—that our students demonstrate each day. Whether they raise their hand to answer a tricky question, try a new activity, or face a personal challenge, the courage of our young learners inspires me constantly.
AEDC
Grade 3-4 Visit to the Arboretum
Our Year 3 and 4 students enjoyed a wonderful educational excursion to the local Arboretum last week. They had the chance to explore the diverse plant life and learn about the importance of conservation. They also had the opportunity to propagate their own succulents and were even lucky enough to see a few platypi. Hands-on, real-world experiences like this bring their classroom lessons to life.
Student Wellbeing Check In
Grades 3-6 pupils recently completed the Student Wellbeing and Engagement Check-in as part of our commitment to student wellbeing and school belonging. The check-in gives our older students a safe space to discuss their feelings, raise any concerns, and ask for support if they need it. This survey assists teachers in playing an active role in helping students grow as whole people by supporting them academically, emotionally, and cognitively.
Representative Cross Country
Looking ahead to next week, our representative cross-country runners will participate in the NWPSSA Cross Country at Ulverstone. The team of runners has been training with Mr Henry's support. We wish them all the best and will cheer them on every step of the way!
Delta Dog Visit
Our early childhood classes are in for a very special treat when Delta Dog, a therapy dog organisation, visits. Delta Dog Safe™ is a targeted community education program providing practical ways young children and their families can reduce dog bite incidence. Topics include how to read dogs' body language, react in certain situations, and safely greet and play with dogs. The program includes interaction and role play with non-threatening soft toy dogs so that children who are frightened of dogs can participate without feeling afraid. The kids always love interacting with these friendly pups, and it teaches them about animal care, too.
Sharing Assembly Group A
Finally, next Friday's assembly will be sharing group A. Join us as we celebrate our students' achievements and talents. There are always surprises in store!
As we wrap up another exciting few weeks at Spreyton Primary, I'm filled with gratitude for our outstanding students, hardworking teachers and supportive families. The courage, engagement, and sense of community you all demonstrate makes our school a truly special place. Thank you for your continued partnership as we create enriching learning experiences and nurture the whole child.

TEMPORARY VENUE CHANGE - LIL AND STORY TIME SESSIONS
Beginning Tuesday 21st May, Devonport Child Care will be operating out of our Spreyton Launching into Learning classroom for a period of 4-6 weeks due to a flood at their Malangenna premises. LiL plus Rhyme and Story Time sessions will be held in Kinder Robert's classroom during this period.
A temporary fence has been erected in the Kinder playground so the access to the Kinder will be through the double gates on the basketball court side of the Kinder. We understand that this may cause some inconvenience, and we apologise for any disruption to your routine.
We look forward to seeing you next Thursday and Friday for our Rhyme and Story Time and LiL sessions.

LiL COORDINATOR
SCHOOL PHOTOS - DELAYED

SIMULTANEOUS STORY TIME
Classes around Spreyton Primary School joined thousands of schools around Australia to participate in this year’s Simultaneous Storytime reading. The book chosen this year was Bowerbird Blues by Aura Parker. The story centres around a bower birds’ search for blue things but never feeling completely satisfied until he finds something more precious than blue. You can click the link below to go on-line and share the story again with your child; make a collection of blue things or talk about things that are close to your heart.

NATIONAL SORRY DAY - MAY 26
RECONCILIATION WEEK - 27 MAY - 3 JUNE
This year’s theme asks, or rather, demands that reconciliation supporters and allies stand up to defend and uphold the rights of First Nations peoples. Racism must no longer be tolerated or swept under the rug. The voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples must be amplified across all spaces.
In the education sector we are in the unique position of being able to support all children to be active and informed members of their communities with knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives. This will lead to an informed next generation who will stand up and be counted.
The link below is a stunning imaged story of Saltwater Country and history by Emma Robertson
Tune in to Saltwater Country – Emma Robertson tells of the Tasmanian Aboriginal people’s connection to kelp in the Great Southern Reef through audio clips and still images. (see link below)

IT'S HOW YOU PLAY THE GAME
“It’s not whether you win or lose, it’s how you play the game”
- Kids play sport to have fun with friends, let them enjoy playing!
- The adult that has volunteered is doing their best. If you disagree, volunteer next time!
- Kids that volunteer as officials are being enormously brave. Umpiring/refereeing is very difficult, never yell out or approach a game official.
- Junior sport should be fun, the result is not important. Oranges at half time, high fives at the end of the game and all the social interactions are what are important.
As we have several sports rosters underway it is important to remember that all these organisations have expectations around spectators/players and officials. Please play your part to keep sport a safe and fun place for your child, and other children.

2024 REMINDER PAYMENT OF LEVIES IS DUE
Levies are one of the many ways that families contribute to our school community. They support student learning by contributing towards the cost of essential items and services.
Levy payments are now due, we ask that you make payment as soon as possible please. Payment can be made online, over the phone or at the school office via EFTPOS or cash between 8.00am and 4.00pm on school days.
We understand some circumstances mean full payment of levies is not possible and Parents/Carers may choose to agree to pay levies by instalments. If you are in this situation I ask that you please contact me to discuss setting up a payment plan. This will enable us to set up an agreed instalment payment plan with regular weekly/fortnightly or monthly payments to suit your circumstances and ensure the levies are paid in full in an acceptable timeframe.
