Early Learning Opportunities at Spreyton Primary School
Rhyme and Story Time – Thursday 9.00am in our Launching into Learning Room.
Children learn basic skills like reading, writing, and counting by singing and playing with rhymes. They have a lot of fun as well.
Launching into Learning – Friday 9.00am - 10.30am in our Launching into Learning Room.
LiL is for babies and children up to the age of five. The options for play are endless: indoor or outdoor; crawl under or jump over; sing, dance or create art! Have fun together, learning and playing and also enjoy having a chat with other parents and carers.
Pre-Kinder Sessions – Friday 1.15pm - 2.30pm in our Launching into Learning Room.
If your child was born in 2020, they are eligible to commence Kindergarten in 2025. Pre-Kinder sessions are a great way to give children and parents a taste of school life in the year before they enter Kindergarten. Our program provides a range of activities to develop the student's social, physical and academic skills.
In accordance with the Department for Education, Children and Young People policy, we require a responsible adult to accompany children who are involved in the program.
All the above sessions are free to access.
Before and After School Care
A reminder to all families that Devonport Child Care Centre provides before and after school care programs from our school. The program operates Monday to Friday 6.00am - 8.30am and 2.45pm - 6.00pm during state school terms.
Information is available by contacting Devonport Child Care Centre on 6424 6747, or via email admin@devonportchildcare.org.au.

BOOK WEEK
Next Friday 23rd of August is our Book Week Parade at 9.00am in the Gym
Next Friday, the school community will be dressing up to celebrate Book Week. Everyone is invited to come along as their favourite character from books old and new. Launching into Learning and Pre-Kinder children and parents are also welcome to come dressed as their favourite book character and can bring the book with them if they like. This year’s theme is, 'Reading is Magic'. Reading helps us all to grow in skills and understanding, and the stories we read can inspire us to do more and be better. So take the time to read and to encourage your children to continue persisting with this life-long skill.
Devonport Library - Book Week Activities
Reading is Magic! Join Libraries Tasmania for fun Book Week activities from 17th to 23rd August 2024.
This year Libraries are adding a little extra magic and inviting children and youth to submit book reviews. The book reviews will be printed and displayed in libraries as part of Book Week promotions.
Posters have been designed with a QR code that links to a Microsoft Form. They complement locally created posters promoting and linking to the CBCA shortlisted books available in our collection.
Join in the conversation and perhaps discover another magical read.
BREAKFAST CLUB DONATIONS
Our school is trialling an 8:30am-8:45am Breakfast Club, Monday - Wednesday mornings. We are placing a donations box at the front office, so if anyone can donate a loaf of bread (all types) or some fresh fruit (apples, bananas, pears etc), jar of Jam, vegemite or other spreads this would be greatly appreciated.
If you are available to help make toast from 8:30am onwards, Monday - Friday, please contact the office or email Heidi at heidi.broun-donohue@decyp.tas.gov.au.
Any support you can give our Breakfast Club is really appreciated.

STUDENT VOICE IN ACTION AT SPREYTON PRIMARY
Recently, our Student Councillors workshopped ideas for the new signage that will be going up along the Spreyton Connector pathway. Students shared some creative and clever ideas to ‘Celebrate our Spreyton Story’. Well done to our student leaders!

TWILIGHT FESTIVAL UPDATE - AUGUST 2024
Twilight Festival coordinators in conjunction with senior staff, have decided to not hold the festival next year with the aim of moving to a bi-annual event in the future. This is due to the workload on such a small team and fundraising opportunities on alternating years with the Colour Run.
The future of the festival is heavily reliant on more team members coming forward to help. If you think you can contribute to our positive and hardworking team we would love to hear from you. Please contact the school office or approach a committee member if you can help.
The Twilight Festival committee thanks everyone for their support over the past 2 years. Your help has made for a fabulous festival that we can all be proud of.
Additionally, the School Association is currently discussing investing our fundraising dollars into some exciting initiatives to enhance our students experience at Spreyton Primary School so watch this space.

SEXUAL ASSAULT SUPPORT SERVICE
Dear Families
Sexual Assault Support Service (SASS) is contracted by DECYP to provide consent and relationships education in a number of Tasmanian schools.
During these sessions we have noted that young participants have a myriad of questions, that we would like to support parents to feel comfortable responding to.
SASS have begun a new initiative to support parents with their own questions and building their skills to have these conversations with the young people in their lives.
For 3 months we are offering both online and in person "ask us anything” sessions for parents and caregivers for free. At these sessions our highly experienced educators will be ready to provide answers and strategies to parents themselves around consent, sexual harm and relationships for their children.
Ask us anything: Free sessions for parents.
Helping the young people in your life navigate their intimate relationships.
For a limited time SASS is offering parents and guardians an opportunity to "ask us anything" in online sessions with our specialist trainers, Adie and Ebony.
These two excellent SASS educators have been out in Tasmanian schools talking to kids about consent and intimate relationships. They’d love to share the questions that kids have been asking them and support you to have these same conversations with your own kids.
You can pre-submit or ask questions live. Any questions at all about young people and their intimate relationships will be answered including questions about:
- Body autonomy
- Consent communication
- Sexual harm awareness
- Sexting
- Online safety
- Harmful sexual behaviour among peers
- Sex and the law …and many more.
Online sessions:
- Tuesday 27 August 7.00-8.30pm
- Thursday 19th September 7.00pm -8:30pm
Session numbers are limited, please book your free spot on the link below:
Thank you, and please contact us with any questions,
The SASS training team.
