FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Welcome back to Term 4. With improved weather comes higher UV. Therefore, hats are now compulsory for this term.
Our attendance currently sits at 90.3% average attendance for the year so far. This compares favourably to the state average attendance. Let's keep up the good work, the Student Representative Council will set the targets and rewards for good attendance at mid-term and also later in the term.
Breakfast Club
This will continue Monday to Wednesday this term. I really appreciate the support of our volunteers and sponsors. It is a great opportunity for staff and volunteers to connect with students and the students enjoy the toast.
School Colour Run
This major fundraiser happens every two years and we have also moved our Twilight Festival to every two years to take pressure off families. The Colour Run is planned for Thursday, 28th November. Our Student Council has decided they would like to use the funds to enhance our playground. In a change this year, the Student Council will be able to Slime Staff if certain fundraising targets are met. Ms Borlini will announce the staff and fundraising targets very soon.
Every Day at School Counts
Going to school every day gives your child every chance to learn and grow and connect with their mates and teachers. School is where bright futures start and where they’ll benefit the most.
If you’re struggling to get your child to school, help is available. Please talk to us at school about your situation. We’ll support you, in whatever way we can.
Crossing the Line
Our schools should be respectful, positive and safe places – for students, teachers, school staff and the whole school community.
To achieve this, it’s important that all adults work together and communicate respectfully to get the best outcomes for the kids. This includes parents, carers and school staff.
We all experience everyday pressures and frustrations. It’s sometimes easy to forget this, and our actions, messages or furious typing can quickly lead to disrespect and distress.
If you have an issue to raise with a teacher or school staff member, remember to stop and think about how you communicate.
This is also the case in the online world. Remember there is a real person, just like you, on the other end of your post, comment or email.
Adult behaviour in and around school impacts everyone. Help us to eliminate disrespectful behaviour in our schools and create the best environment possible for our kids to learn.
Disrespect in our schools is crossing the line. Simple as that.

CITY MISSION - INSIDE OUT FOR KIDS
26TEN WEEK CELEBRATING FAMILIES LEARNING
Improving literacy in parents and carers improves literacy in children, and this flows on to our communities and workplaces.
26Ten Week runs from 21-27 October 2024. This year’s theme – Family fun with letters and numbers – celebrates the importance of literacy and numeracy for the whole family. By improving their own skills, parents and carers gain the confidence to better support their children’s learning.
Family literacy and numeracy are essential for a child’s success. When parents and carers get involved – whether it’s reading together, cooking with measurements, or playing boardgames – they’re setting a great example and fostering a love for learning.
26Ten supports parents and carers to build their literacy and numeracy skills so they can support their kids. We are proud to be a part of the 26Ten Network – let’s all work towards a Tasmania where everyone has the literacy and numeracy skills they need to thrive in work and life!
Find out more about 26Ten at the link below.
CHILD AND YOUTH SAFE STANDARDS
The Department for Education, Children and Young People (DECYP) is committed to making sure it is a child safe organisation. We want all children and young people to feel safe and secure, including when they are at school, visiting a Child and Family Learning Centre, visiting Libraries or using any of our services.
PARENT WORKSHOP - DYSLEXIA
This Tasmania-specific workshop is designed to help parents navigate the education system and support their child with dyslexia. Join us at The St Lukes Wellness Hub for an informative session filled with information about dyslexia, strategies and resources to empower you in advocating for your child's needs.
We're also celebrating the resource of our new Parent Guide, writting by Tasmanian parents, educators and people with dyslexia for Tasmanian families. Learn how to effectively communicate with teachers and school administrators, understand your child's rights, and access the support they require to succeed in school. Don't miss out on this opportunity to connect with other parents facing similar challenges and gain valuable insights.
All participants receive a free, limited edition printed version of our Parent Guide.
