Breakfast Club
The Tasmanian Community Fund sent a camera crew to record the success of the Breakfast Club. The message we tried to convey is that this is for the community, by the community. We are always grateful for your donations and thank our suppliers, Squibbs Orchard Shop and Spreyton Bakery, for their continued support.
Symmons Plains Cross Country
A cool day greeted the runners at Symmons Plains for this annual event. Thanks to the attending staff and the efforts of the runners on the day. This was a fantastic opportunity for our students. Bus costs continue to rise at a concerning rate, which impacts many opportunities for our students regarding bus travel. Many thanks to Spreyton Bakery for generously coming on board to subsidise the cost of the bus and making it possible for more children to compete.
Reports
Teachers have been busy with Mid-year Reports. Our recent Moderation Day was part of the process of assigning ratings for English, Maths, and Science for students in Grades 1 - 6. Prep students do not receive a report mid-year as per the DECYP Communicating Learning Progress with Families Policy. In adherence to this policy, there are no teacher comments included in these reports. However, there are more opportunities for families to meet with class teachers.
Family/Teacher Meetings
This is a great opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher to discuss their progress at school. Your child’s teacher may share Evidence of Learning; however, I know some class teachers have already posted some of these through Seesaw. There is a booking procedure available through the Schoolzine app link below.

CELEBRATION OF LEARNING - Kinder Franks

"WINTER"
Kinder Franks has welcomed the cooler weather and the start of Winter. We are enjoying learning about the seasons and about how Winter looks and feels in our part of the world. Some of our learning experiences include winter-themed art and craft, and brainstorming Winter words to make our own poem. We also enjoyed making a simple graph to show who has been to the snow previously. There are a lot of children who have not seen snow as yet and are hoping that this might be the year they do! We have read, sung and watched how to build a snowman in anticipation. We wonder if the rest of the school community is as happy about the change of seasons. Stay warm and well this Winter, everyone.

FOYER DISPLAY - P/1 Young
Within our Term two Science unit, we have been learning about life cycles and features of animals, and how these can be similar and different to other creatures.
We have consolidated our Science unit with part of our English unit, by researching Hermit Crabs in Fiction books, looking at diagrams, labels and the information that they tell us.

WELLBEING

During Wellbeing lessons, we engage in activities such as singing, dancing, and role-playing to make learning about emotions engaging and fun, as well as written work in students’ workbooks.
A couple of the things we have been working on are Social and Emotional Learning (see images) and The Zones of Regulation - Exploring Emotions.
The Zones of Regulation
The Zones of Regulation is a framework designed to help children understand and manage their emotions. It categorises feelings and states of alertness into four coloured zones, making it easier for kids to recognise and regulate their emotions.
The Four Zones
Blue Zone
Emotions: Sad, tired, bored, sick
State: Low level of energy and down feelings
Green Zone
Emotions: Happy, calm, focused, proud
State: Calm energy and a sense of control
Yellow Zone
Emotions: Worried, frustrated, excited, silly
State: Higher energy and stronger feelings
Red Zone
Emotions: Angry, panicked, overjoyed, terrified
State: Extremely high energy and strongest feelings
How It Works
Students explore the four Zones of Regulation and how they are used to categorise and identify the variety of feelings and energy states we all experience. Learning about the Zones of Regulation framework provides us with a clear way to think about, communicate about, and care for our feelings. The introduction to the four Zones in the early years establishes the common language that learners and leaders will use throughout the curriculum and daily life. Since every person experiences a wide range of feelings, we stress that all the Zones are okay, and you should not attach judgment or shame to any one Zone.
Zones of Regulation Key Principles are:
1. Zones are based on feelings, not behaviours.
2. All the Zones are okay.
3. Our experience of The Zones is unique.
4. The Zones of Regulation is not a compliance-based model.
5. The Green Zone is not the goal.
If you have any questions regarding Wellbeing lessons, please feel free to make an appointment to come in and have a chat with me during Parent/Teacher week.

NATURE PLAYGROUND OFFICIALLY OPEN!
We are excited to announce that our new nature-based playground is now officially open! After weeks of planning and construction, students were able to explore and enjoy the new space for the very first time this week.
The playground was opened with a special assembly and ribbon-cutting ceremony, attended by members of our School Association and 2024 SRC, who were instrumental in bringing this project to life. As a reward for outstanding attendance over the past fortnight, Prep 1 Young had the honour of being the first class to play on the new equipment.
The nature playground offers students a range of opportunities to climb, balance, and use their imaginations in a natural, engaging environment. It has already been wonderful to see so many smiling faces and hear the excitement as students challenge themselves and play together.
Funds raised from the 2024 Colour Run Fundraiser also contributed towards the development of the playground. We are incredibly grateful for the support from our school community.
We extend our thanks to everyone who supported this project, especially our School Association and Student Representative Council, whose dedication made this new play space possible. We look forward to seeing our students enjoy the nature playground for many years to come!

HEARTKIDS DAY - Friday June 20

Dear Spreyton Primary School Community,
On Friday, 20th June, our school will be joining in Hero for HeartKids Day!
What is HeartKids Day?
HeartKids Day helps raise money and awareness for children with Childhood-onset Heart Disease (CoHD). CoHD means a child is born with, or develops, a heart condition when they are young. These conditions can make life challenging for families, and some children need to visit the hospital often or have special surgeries. We have a number of students at Spreyton who live with these conditions, so this cause is very close to our hearts.
What is “Hero for HeartKids”?
Hero for HeartKids is a special day where people dress up as superheroes to show support for all the brave children with heart conditions. It helps raise money so HeartKids can support families with things like hospital visits, information, and counselling. Every dollar helps make life a bit easier for kids and their families.
How can you help?
On the day, we are inviting everyone to dress up as their favourite superhero! You could be Superman, Wonder Woman, a nurse, or even your own made-up hero. Please bring a gold coin donation to help HeartKids keep supporting families.
Families can also donate online using this link https://heartkidscommunityfundraising.org.au/spreyton-primary-school
Let’s come together, have some fun, and be heroes for all the kids in our community living with heart disease!
Thank you for your support.
SPREYTON PRIMARY SCHOOL SRC
COMMUNITY DEFIBRILLATOR
We are pleased to share that Spreyton Primary School has installed a Community Defibrillator at the entrance to our front office.
This life-saving device is now available for use by both our school and the broader community in the event of a cardiac emergency. Clearly visible and easily accessible, the AED is located just outside the main office doors. It has been installed with the support of St John Ambulance and includes step-by-step instructions designed to be straightforward in high-pressure situations.
In the event of a suspected cardiac arrest, always call 000. The Defibrillator can then be used to provide immediate support while waiting for emergency services to arrive.
We are proud to contribute to the safety and well-being of our school and local community through this important initiative. Having a Defibrillator on-site significantly increases the chances of survival in the case of sudden cardiac arrest, and we hope it provides reassurance to our families and community members alike.
Thank you to everyone who supported this initiative.
Together, we’re helping make Spreyton a safer place for all.
